LUKE – Chef/Dive Master

LUKE – Chef/Dive Master

Luke grew up in a small village in Vanua Levu, which is the second largest island in Fiji’s archipelago. From a tender age he was always drawn to the kitchen, fascinated by the smell and tastes of his mother’s cooking. While most of his friends were out improving their rugby skills on the village green, Luke would be found in the kitchen helping his mother. After completing high school and with no funding to further his education, he worked as a kitchen hand at Daikoku Japanese restaurant in Nadi. Luke’s passion for cooking did not deter him because it was not too long before he was promoted to trainee Tepanyaki chef and finally chef, all within a year. This was the beginning of his career and since then, Luke has never regretted the path he has chosen. Over the past 20 years, Luke has worked at various restaurants in Fiji, but mostly on liveaboard dive boats in Fiji, and private owned super yachts in New Zealand and Australia. He also had a short stint as cook for Hollywood celebrity and Australian actor, Mel Gibson and his family while holidaying on their island, Mago in Fiji. Chef Luke has worked alongside Captain Ned for the past 14 years and is also a Dive Master. “I love working on boats because it does not limit my cooking skills. I get to make entrees, mains, desserts… and be creative in many ways. I am so happy when I see people enjoying my food… such fulfillment”.
